Modern Dance Company looking for new male dancers for a recent commission- A new piece will be developed specifically for the commission. Male dancers proficient in jazz and classical modern styles (Limon, Graham, Horton, ect.) Ballet experience helpful.

The piece will be centered around a contemporary take on the Salem Witch Trials, and the issues of the disempowerment of women and the “other” for the sake of stability within zealot governments. The piece is extremely athletic .

Rehearsals will be in the evening during the weekdays, and the afternoon on Sat.

Performances on April 11th, with the very real possibility of performing throughout the summer in various festivals

Audition will take place on Thursday and Friday, March 12th and 13th in the evening.

Spend a week with CityDance Ensemble, “Washington's preeminent modern dance company” (The Washington Times), learning the challenges and rewards of working in a company whose repertory ranges from the masterpieces of modern dance’s early years to new works by the leading choreographers of today.

The intensive includes daily technique classes, repertory, and special seminar sessions on topics including choreographic investigation, sustaining a career as a dancer, tools for studio and outreach education, and the role of art in the world today.

Participants will work side by side with the dancers of CityDance Ensemble, Artistic Director Paul Gordon Emerson, and Resident Choreographer Christopher K. Morgan. The workshop will culminate in a studio performance open to the public. Details

Class description: This series is an all levels class, and caters to experienced dancers as well as beginners. There will be a focus on technique, drills, expression, accents, and fluid movements.

CityDance Ensemble seeks male and female modern dancers ages 18 and up for the 2009-2010 season. Strong modern and ballet technique is required, previous professional experience preferred. Dancers will be hired for a minimum contract of 35 weeks and must be available to rehearse Monday through Friday from 10am to 5pm. Salary is commensurate with experience.
